1. Its file browser for USB memories is a lot better than one of their top TV model. With their top-of-the-line TV, if I change current folder to X, I could see files in folder Y which is a sibling of X.
2. The UI is almost same to the UI for the TV. This is good. It means less work whenever they introduce new products.
3. It also could display Korean.
4. The ATSC TV tuner works!
Old NTSC indoor antenna and old NTSC TVs have never worked for me. That was sole reason my family subscribed local antenna-sharing before "cable" came to the market through 1980s and early 90s.
However, ATSC seems to work a lot better. The image is crisp. Because it is digital, I assume that it tries error correction. ( It will not ask the server to send the data again, because TV broadcasting is very timely operation and if it asks resending such data, it will fall behind. ) So, sometimes the image quality is not as good as that of satellite and cables but this is very pleasurable to watch.
One caveat : the signal usually is interfered by WIFI NAT device. I don't broadcast my SSID for maximum security at home. When after installing the antenna, my MacBook can't catch registered SSID. I had to enable SSID broadcasting.
Once WIFI is connected, the TV tuner can't receive TV signal well. It complaints that the signal is either weak or not exists.
Once I put the antenna at the other side of my unit, the both started to work.
5. PIP is only for TV, not media playback in a USB memory or other input source like HDMI.
6. Although its spec says it (has) 1 HDMI, 1 DVI , 1 VGA, actually it has 2 HDMI, 1 VGA. I had to go to Fry's to buy DVI-HDMI cable which is awkwardly expensive ~$20. They can claim that they didn't say it had 1 DVI port. Ummm.. technically they are right, because they just wrote :
1 HDMI
1 DVI
1 VGA
Normally, to Korean common sense, it means they supports/has 1 HDMI port, 1 DVI port and 1 VGA port.
7. Once the TV signal is lost, all your registered "favorite" channel setting is gone.
8. Once the TV signal is lost, you need to reprogram, i.e. enumeration of TV channels, to watch a channel. Typing in that channel number doesn't work.
(What the ..... )
So, my overall impression is that it is a good multi-purpose monitor.
However, it is not engineered as perfect as Apple's.
I WARN YOU. You should not expect Apple's ENGINEERING or perfectionism from the Samsung's.
